YUVARLAKÇAY
Known as Köyceğiz's "cold paradise," Yuvarlakçay, which maintains its water temperature at the same level year-round thanks to the melting snow from the foothills of Mount Sandras, is located 20 km from Köyceğiz town center, in an area shown as 4.8 km on the map. Along this road, there are many restaurants, all of them beautiful. It's a magnificent place to visit, boasting swings that rival those of the most beautiful in Turkey. You can reach this exquisite natural wonder by turning off the Köyceğiz-Ortaca road at the "Beyobası" junction and driving 15 km, or, for those coming from Köyceğiz, by driving 12 km via the Zeytinalanı road. Those without a vehicle can reach this beauty by taking the minibuses that depart every half hour from Köyceğiz town center.
Yuvarlakçay Köyceğiz, whose fame has increased significantly in recent years thanks to social media posts, is a popular escape for those overwhelmed by the summer heat. Restaurants in the area offer opportunities for swinging and swimming. However, even dipping your feet in the water requires courage, let alone swimming. Even in summer, the water temperature is only 6-7 degrees Celsius. It's not possible to just jump in gradually. If you can jump in without thinking, you're good to go; otherwise, you'll give up after a few attempts.
About 200 years ago, the river flowing from the heart of Çiçek Baba Mountain to Lake Köyceğiz dried up. The river, now submerged underground, subjected the local people who depended on its water to seven years of drought and poverty.
As the days passed, the waters that had emerged from underground through the 'Topgözü' spring, where cannons had been fired to blast it, began to flow with a gurgling sound. Rolling and rolling, bringing abundance, the waters reached Lake Köyceğiz, where they took the name "Yuvarlakçay".
